When Indignation Becomes The New Patriotism
I’ve been called a lot of things in my life, not all of them complimentary. It’s the risk you run when speaking your mind comes easily. It also happens when you stand for something.
These days find me standing in indignation against active shooters; and the lenient laws that allow them to populate with such rapid frequency. It has become clear that we need to stop waiting for someone to save us, but rather act to SAVE OURSELVES.
I’m not a political animal, nor do I aspire to be one. But I do lean on my representatives to do the right thing to protect their constituents.
This is the moment that I share that I have owned more than one fire arm in my life. I’m a big proponent of the 2nd amendment. I am also the first in line to call for reasonable gun regulation across the board. I hold on tightly to the belief that rapid-fire weaponry has no place in the civilian sector.
I’m fully aware that by saying that out loud I will alienate some of my readers. I’ll take that risk. I stand defiant in the face of anyone who doesn’t think this is worth a conversation. And by the way … no one is taking our guns away. NO ONE. That notion is fear mongering at its best. Don’t buy into it.
Three years ago I attended an all-day active shooter training program offered by LAPD/RHF (Run, Hide, Fight). Little did I know that it would change the course of my life direction.
The take-away was simple: there is a LOT we can do to HELP OURSELVES survive an active shooter event. It is a matter of outreach and education, as the knowledge can be complex and is not common place.
Before you label me as a “snowflake” and “another bleeding-heart liberal” let me share with you that I am lifetime Republican. I could not be more ashamed of our representatives selling our souls to the NRA while overlooking the protection and safety of the citizenry of our country.
We should all be offering up more than thoughts and prayers; we should be offering up solutions, options, strategies that will help to make us safe as we go about our lives.
For my part, I have formed a company that will train, prepare, and educate you and your organization on how to increase your chances of surviving an active shooter event. The company name is Survive The Madness. The training of ALL schools, corporate, and civic venues are FREE of charge (subject to location/availability).
We also offer the best of breed in Bleed Control and Defense survival kits. They contain the items you will need to save a life anytime, anywhere. You can view them here.
In short, I’ve gone back to my roots of survival training. Not the place I envisioned for myself at this stage in my life. But I believe with all my heart that we all need to do what we can where we stand.
I look forward to the day that our world circumstances will put me out of business. Until then, I’m walking my talk and showing up for those things that matter most to me; the safety of those I love.
If I am asked to choose between my political party and my family’s safety; the choice is an easy one. If my party does not stand for my family’s safety, they are on the wrong side of the fence.
This is not political for me. When it comes to the killing of innocents, it’s not about politics, it’s about humanity. We are all just people trying to live out our lives. Bullets don’t discriminate. Neither do I.
For those who have followed me these past many years and have been a part of my writing audience, I thank you. I will still be contributing to Witty Woman, HuffPo and the many other publications you find me at.
I hope you will subscribe to me here in my new habitat. It will be a place of optimism, information and as always, a sassy woman’s perspective! Anyone who knows me or has been reading me for years, knows that I say what I mean and I mean what I say. In short, every once in a while … this old dog bites back.
It takes a village. I hope you’ll be part of mine.
